After completing a Communications Degree at UTS majoring in Writing and Film, Deborah's first job was in the script department at Southern Star. This was followed by 7 years as a writer/ producer on CHEEZ TV (Network Ten), writing, editing and directing studio and location segments for 6 to 16 year olds. Her love of writing for kids lead her to create the MAX REMY SUPERSPY and JASPER ZAMMIT (SOCCER LEGEND) book series. She has recently released a new novel for children: THE REMARKABLE SECRET OF AURELIE BONHOFFEN and is working on a new one titled GRIMSDON: CHILDREN OF THE FLOOD for Random House Australia.
ROBYN ARCHER WRITER/ DIRECTOR/ SINGER
Robyn Archer AO is a singer, writer, director, artistic director and public advocate of the Arts. In all these roles her reach is global. Having set an international benchmark in the 1980s for English language interpretation of songs by Brecht/Weill/Eisler, she continues to perform this and other repertoire, with recent sold-out concerts in Adelaide, Melbourne and Canberra; her APAP address (New York Jan 2009) ,Manning Clark (March 2009), Wal Cherry (September 2008) and Peggy Glanville-Hicks (Sept 2009) Memorial Lectures, as well as her address at GARMA (August 2009) have been enthusiastically received. She directed a theatrical cabaret in Pittsburgh in April 2009, and is currently Creative Director of the Centenary of Canberra, and Artistic Director of The Light in Winter which she created for Federation Square in Melbourne. She is in constant demand throughout the world as a speaker on the Arts. Gillian Arnold is a talented and versatile award-winning creator/producer/director with over 26 year's experience. She has directed over 150 hours of prime-time drama, and has international experience setting up fledgling drama divisions in places such as Singapore and Indonesia. She broke new ground in Australia developing and producing cutting-edge interactive daily drama, including the world's first interactive/topical/reality drama series GOING HOME. She has also directed Reality TV programs, including AUSTRALIAN BIG BROTHER, and the first pan-Asian talk show for women THE MAY LEE SHOW (Star World HK).
MANNY ASTON WRITER : STAGE/ TELEVISION
Manny Aston has a background in film and television production and extensive experience as a writer in Theatre In Education. He has been writer-in-residence for Self Raising Theatre and Theatre South, and has had a number of plays commissioned by Canberra's Jigsaw Theatre Company. His plays include CLAY SOLDIERS and WHEN THE BOUGH BREAKERS. However, Manny is best known for his award-winning play for teenagers, FOSSILS, which has enjoyed popular seasons with professional theatre companies, schools and colleges around Australia and overseas. Manny has recently written a series of books on study skills, including STUDY RIGHT which has sold over 30,000 copies Australia-wide.
GEOFFREY ATHERDEN WRITER : FEATURE FILM / TELEVISION
In 2009, Geoffrey Atherden was made a Member of the Order of Australia. Geoffrey is best known for his television series MOTHER AND SON and has won numerous awards for it as well as for other television work and a United Nations Media Peace Prize for BABAKIUERIA, an ABC Drama. His comedy drama series, GRASS ROOTS, was broadcast on ABC television in 2000, winning 5 AFI Awards. A second series in 2003 won a further 2 AFIs. Geoffrey's most recent work was a telemovie for the ABC, STEPFATHER OF THE BRIDE, for which he was awarded internationally. In April 2007, Geoffrey received an Australian Film Commission (AFC) Television Writer Fellowship for a project for ABC TV titled LEADING THE BLIND. Geoffrey is now President of the Australian Writers' Foundation and a member of the Board of the New South Wales Film and Television Office.
JULIE BAIL WRITER/ PLAYWRIGHT
Julie Bail started her writing career in the 1980's, where she wrote plays, revue sketches and monologues which were successfully performed by Australian Theatre Workshop and other funded groups in Canberra. She then went on to write two comic plays OLD GIRLS NEVER DIE and THE GHASTLIEST GIRL IN THE SCHOOL for the ACT Women's Theatre Workshop. They ran for over 5 weeks at the then Childers Street Theatre and at Canberra Repertory, which in the absence of a state theatre company was the major theatre for local work. Julie also co-wrote a Christmas play for a not for profit organization as well as a moral tale THE HAIRNET AND THE MAGGOT. Her 1st novel was completed in 1991 in the Philippines where she was working at the time. Julie started her 2nd novel in 2001 called BRIGHT SPECIMENS. Julie has completed several writing courses at the University of Sydney's Centre for Continuing Education as well as a unit in the University's Masters in Creative Writing ‘Advanced Novel". In 2003, Julie was granted a Fellowship by Eleanor Dark Foundation at Varuna and in 2006, was awarded the Harper Collins Manuscript Development Award.
PAUL BENNETT WRITER/SCRIPT EDITOR: FILM / TELEVISION
Paul began his career in film as a staff writer on the SBS series GOING HOME. For two years he developed new television dramas for BBHTV including the 13 part children's series OCEAN STAR which he wrote for and script edited in 2002. After working as a script editor on MCLEOD'S DAUGHTERS, Paul was offered a position at Network Ten as the deputy to Sue Masters, Head of Drama. In his capacity as Network Drama Executive he worked on series such as THE SECRET LIFE OF US, NEIGHBOURS, BLACKJACK, TRIPPING OVER, BOMBALI and most recently MURDER IN THE OUTBACK - THE JOANNE LEES STORY. More recently he has been working on the feature THE WHITE EXPERIMENT- an adaptation of the book The White Divers of Broome by John Bailey; and a number of children's dramas - TRAPPED, ENYO and SALLY BOLLYWOOD. After three and a half years at Network Ten, Paul has set up his own production company and currently has a number of television and feature projects in development as a Writer/Producer.
JAMES BOGLE DIRECTOR / WRITER / SCRIPT EDITOR: FILM/ TELEVISION
Four time AFI Award nominee, James Bogle, has directed four Australian feature films, IN THE WINTER DARK(1999) starring Brenda Blethyn, MAD BOMBER IN LOVE(1993), KADAICHA(1989) and CLOSED FOR WINTER (2009) starring Natalie Imbruglia. In between feature projects James directs children's drama, notably, 6 episodes of the Logie award winning series LOCKIE LEONARD in 2007 and more recently 7 episodes in 2009. He has directed 13 episodes of SLEEPOVER CLUB (2006), and 13 episodes of FOREIGN EXCHANGE (2005), partly shot in Ireland. James has also worked as a Television field producer (at 10 in Sydney), worked on World Vision documentaries in Africa, and written and directed multi-media installations for the opening of Fox Studios, Australia (2000).
TIM BOWDEN JOURNALIST / PRESENTER / WRITER
Tim Bowden is a Sydney broadcaster, journalist, radio and television documentary maker, oral historian and author. He was the first executive producer of ABC radio's current affairs program PM and a producer with ABC-TV's ground-breaking THIS DAY TONIGHT. He founded ABC Radio's Social History Unit in 1985. He has written fourteen books including, CHANGI PHOTOGRAPHER, THE WAY MY FATHER TELLS IT, SPOOLING THROUGH - AN IRREVERENT MEMOIR and four travel/adventure books in outback Australia, the most recent being DOWN UNDER IN THE TOP END - PENELOPE HEADS NORTH. All his books have been best sellers. ONE CROWDED HOUR - NEIL DAVIS, COMBAT CAMERAMAN, 1934-1985 has sold over 100 000 copies and is now in its 18th edition. Bowden wrote and presented six half-hour television documentaries BREAKING THE ICE about Australians exploring and working in Antarctica. Tim Bowden received an Order of Australia for services to public broadcasting in June 1994.

Jamie is a successful film and television writer with his projects finding critical acclaim nationally and internationally. Jaime attended the Victoria College of Arts and completed a three-year film and television course. All of Jaime's student films completed during his time at VCA won several of the script awards at the school. His films have also been screened at film festivals internationally winning various prizes. In 2005/2006 Jaime co-wrote THE KING, a major telemovie about the life and career of Graham Kennedy, which has since become the highest rating drama ever screened on pay TV in Australia. THE KING made its free to air debut on the Nine Network in August 2007 to high critical acclaim. As well as developing his own projects, Jaime has written for popular television series such as LAST MAN STANDING, SECRET LIFE OF US and more recently RUSH SERIES 2.
LARRY BUTTROSE WRITER/DIRECTOR: BOOKS/FILMS/STAGE/DOCUMENTARY/VIDEO/PUBLICATION
Larry Buttrose is an author, playwright, screenwriter, journalist, essayist and poet. His most recent non fiction book is SPEECHES OF WAR & PEACE. His other non fiction title includes DEAD FAMOUS: Death of the famous and famous deaths (2007), while his next will be FROM EDEN TO EL DORADO: Tales of the Popes in early 2009. His first novel THE MAZE OF THE MUSE was published in 1998 and his second SWEET SENTENCE in 2001. Larry has just completed a new novel LAMINGTON , and is writing his fourth, BLESSED KISS. He is also an essayist, with major pieces published in 2006, 2007 and 2008 in the Sydney Morning Herald, The Age, Griffith Review and Wet Ink. He was one of the first of Australia's new generation of travel writers: his travel books are THE KING NEPTUNE DAY & NIGHT CLUB (1992), CAFE ROYALE (1997), and THE BLUE MAN (1999). He has also published four collections of poems. For the stage, Larry co-wrote the David Atkins smash hit musical HOT SHOE SHUFFLE, which opened in Australia in 1992 and toured nationally for several seasons, and went on sold-out seasons in London's West End, Japan, New Zealand and all over the U.K, as well as the U.S and Canada. His other works produced for the stage are KURTZ (based on Joseph Conrad's classic Heart of Darkness), COMPLAINTS and PALLAS, as well as the radio play SANTO. In 1992 he co-wrote the comedy feature film GINO with comedian Vince Sorrenti, and in 1995 Larry was awarded a Distinctly Australian fellowship by the Australian Film Commission.
SUE CASTRIQUE WRITER/ SCRIPT EDITOR: FILM/ TELEVISION/ DOCUMENTARY
Sue Castrique is a scriptwriter and editor of drama and documentary with extensive experience in television, film and video. She wrote the historical documentary series FEDERATION screened on the ABC and SHIFTING OLD NORTH SYDNEY. Her short film THE DROVER'S WIFE has been screened extensively at international film festivals and acquired by the National Gallery of Australia. Sue has script edited a number of independent dramas and documentaries since receiving a Distinctively Australian Fellowship from the AFC which have received awards in Australia and overseas. Sue's work has been recognised with a number of awards including two AWGIES, an AFI for Best Screenplay, the Greater Union Award for short fiction and the Reuben Mamoulian Award.
GEOFFREY CAWTHORN DIRECTOR: FILM/ TELEVISION
Geoffrey Cawthorn has directed drama and documentary for over 15 years both in Australia and New Zealand. In Australia he has helmed ALL SAINTS, STINGERS, MURDERCALL and a number of award winning children's series, including EUGENIE SANDLER and HOLLY'S HEROES. NZ credits include the telemovie LAWLESS, TV series MADDIGAN'S QUEST, MERCY PEAK, RUDE AWAKENINGS, THE MARKET and SHORTLAND STREET. He is an award-winning short film maker with his short film PHILOSOPHY winning Best Short at the 1999 NZ Film Awards. Most recently he directed the action fantasy adventure LEGEND OF THE SEEKER. Geoff is also a musician and composer and as a documentary maker he has frequently made documentary films with musical subjects such as Ten Guitars, Mike Nock -A jazz life. Other subjects include the criminal justice system in BLIND JUSTICE and a new film on Architect Ian Athfield. Geoff also directed and edited FRONT UP and THE MOVIE SHOW for SBS. Geoff is passionate about telling stories, has a strong focus on character and brings a sophisticated visual eye to all his work.

Peter Clifton is a writer, director and producer for both film and television. He has written and produced the feature film THE NIGHT WE CALLED IT A DAY which starred Dennis Hopper, Melanie Griffiths and Joel Edgerton. He has also directed a number of music documentaries including: AUS The DVD, LONG WAY TO THE TOP, INXS...THE REUNION, CHILDREN OF SOUTH AFRICA as well as many others.
MICHELLE COOPER NOVELIST: CHILDREN/YOUNG ADULTS
Michelle Cooper is an author of novels for children and young adults. Her first novel for teenagers, THE RAGE OF SHEEP, was published by Random House Australia in August, 2007. An early draft of the novel won a mentorship with Alyssa Brugman through the Children's Book Council of Australia. THE RAGE OF SHEEP received warm reviews from both teenagers and adults, who enjoyed the way the novel explored serious issues in an entertaining, humorous manner. Michelle's second novel for teenagers, A BRIEF HISTORY OF MONTMARAY, was published by Random House Australia in June, 2008. This novel is the first in a series set in 1930s Europe. Michelle is currently working on the sequel to A BRIEF HISTORY OF MONTMARAY, which will also be published by Random House Australia.

Steven Dawson is a director, actor and also writer of 36 plays. Companies he has worked with include the State Opera of South Australia, Interplay, Griffin Theatre Company, The Marionette Theatre. His plays include Love In A Cubicle, The Art Of Being Stil and Jane Austen's Guide To Pornography and many others. Plays he has directed include THE ELEPHANT MAN, THREE SISTERS and numerous first productions of his own work. Steven is very active within the theatre community in a number of areas. His published work includes AMONGST DARK GODS- PINK INK and the play scripts THE WHITE ROSE and MENAGE A TROIS. His more recent play THE ADVENTURES OF BUTT BOY & TIGGER did a national tour in late 2008 as well as the Edinburgh Fringe.

Charlie is a writer and director with credits in commercials, cinema (short films), television drama, documentary, and corporate productions. He has written and directed multiple short films which have screened at numerous international Film Festivals, including Venice, Cannes, and Melbourne with his films A MOMENT PASSING and FLYING winning and receiving nominations for several awards. Charlie also worked in television as a writer/director on a television play, a number of documentaries and on the award winning New Zealand drama series TRUE LIFE STORIES. He currently has two feature films in development under funding with the AFC and a documentary in development with Screen Tasmania.
YSABELLE DEAN WRITER: TV / SCRIPT EDITING / SCRIPT PRODUCER / MAGAZINE / DVD / VIDEO
Ysabelle Dean is an accomplished script producer, writer and editor. She has worked on some of Australia's highest rating television series and serials. More recent work also includes scripting on multiple highly acclaimed television programs including BLUE HEELERS, editing for shows such as SEA CHANGE, and script producing numerous children's programs. Ysabelle wrote the telemovie THE ROGUE STALLION which was a Finalist in the 1990 International PATER Awards. Ysabelle is also a short story and feature article writer, and is still regularly published in Australia and overseas. In all of her writing Ysabelle aims for strong, human and credible characterisations. Her work always emphasises the lighter side of human drama whilst never trivialising, or making melodramatic, even the heaviest of dramatic situations.
FRANCO DI CHIERA PRODUCER/ DIRECTOR/ SCREENWRITER
Franco di Chiera is one of Australia's most successful filmmakers. He produced the ground-breaking drama series UNDER THE SKIN (1994) which won an Australian Film Institute Award for Best TV Miniseries/Telefeature and two Australian Writers Guild Awards including Best Television Drama (episode The Long Ride) and Best Children's Drama OLD SAM, JASPER & MR FRANK and Episode Best Wishes was invited to screen at Venice International Film Festival. In 2000, his mini-series THREE FOREVER attracted 7 million viewers over two nights when screened in Italy. His documentary series A CHANGE OF FACE (1988) was SBS's official contribution to the Australian Bicentennial and caused a sensation, generating the highest level of publicity ever in the network's history. His film THE JOYS OF WOMEN (1993) had a hit theatrical season nationally and screened at prestigious international film festivals. It was also nominated Best Documentary in the 1994 Australian Film Critics Circle Awards. Franco's NO MILK, NO HONEY (1997) was SBS's highest rating local documentary for the year and HOOVER'S GOLD (2005) the network's highest rating program for the Inside Australia timeslot, surpassed a few weeks later by TRAFFICKED (2005) which he jointly commissioned as Executive Producer at Film Australia. He directed and co-wrote the dramatised documentary PIPE DREAMS (2006), part of ABC's flagship series CONSTRUCTING AUSTRALIA. In 2007, he wrote and directed episodes of the series WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE?, the highest rating local production ever screened on SBS. His film THE FABULOUS FLAG SISTERS (2008) attracted rave reviews in Australia and doubled the Cult Channel's usual audience. It won Best Broadcast Documentary at the Roma Fiction Festival the same year. Franco is director and co-writer of the feature length documentary THE DEATH OF THE MEGABEASTS, comprising of animation, drama and forensic science, the film has been commissioned as 96 minute by National Geographic. This year also marks Franco's long awaited return to drama as writer and director of the mini-series IIN THE MOUTH OF THE WOLF, currently in development.
PETER DOYLE WRITER: FICTION & NON-FICTION
Peter is a writer of fiction and non-fiction books. His first publication, GET RICH QUICK, won him Australia's prestigious Ned Kelly Award for Best First Crime Novel in 1997. Since then he has continued to write multiple titles including the successful sequel, AMAZE YOUR FRIENDS, which won him another award, and the prequel, THE DEVIL'S JUMP, in 2001. His CITY OF SHADOWS: SYDNEY POLICE PHOTOGRAPHS of 2005 won a National Trust/Energy Australia Heritage Award, and ECHO AND REVERB won the Association of Recorded Sound Collections (ARSC) 2006 award for Best Research in Record Labels and General History. More recently he has released CROOKS LIKE US, a photographic glimpse of Sydney's underside. Peter maintains a research interest in comics and the graphic novel, crime writing, both in Australia and overseas, and the history of twentieth century popular music. His interest in music and popular culture is a strong influence on his fiction writing.
DI DREW DIRECTOR/PRODUCER: FILM AND TELEVISION
Di Drew is one of Australia's most respected, award winning drama directors and producers. The Australian Directors Guild awarded her their prestigious annual award "in recognition of consistent excellence in the art of screen direction in feature film and television direction." Her impressive body of work includes the feature films HILDEGARDE and THE RIGHT HAND MAN. Di's work has gained both local and international recognition at some of the world's most prestigious film festivals including Berlin, Montreal, Turin, Tokyo, Monterey and Chicago. As producer of ALL SAINTS, Di brought the Seven Network's drama series to the number one position three years in a row achieving two gold Logies and seven Silver Logies. She has directed some of the most successful series and miniseries on Australian television. In theatre Di won the best production and best director with her first production and has continued to direct impressive theatre credits. She is currently developing two feature films as Producer / Director and attached as Director on another.
JODY DWYER DIRECTOR / WRITER: FILM / TELEVISION
Jody is a film director with 24 years experience in commercial, documentary and feature filmmaking. His work has earned a variety of international awards (in both advertising and the feature film industry) and his films have been officially selected in over 40 international film festivals. His debut feature DYING BREED premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival last year with great reviews and went onto be sold worldwide (distributors: Hoyts (Aus) & Lionsgate (USA)). Prior to that, Jody directed a prime time TV drama for Australia's Channel Nine (Bryan Brown's TWO TWISTED, entitled Finding Frank). His screenplay for his film BARELY VISIBLE was also nominated for an AFI award.
JONATHAN EMPSON WRITER/ SCREENWRITER
Jonathan Empson was part of the first group of students to complete the AFTRS Graduate Diploma of Screenwriting in 2009. During the course, Jonathan wrote a rom-com feature, HONESTY LTD, and the first episode of a ten-part drama series, CHROME, which has since been optioned by Beyond International and was shortlisted for an AWGIE in 2010. Jonathan’s work led to him winning the 2009 FOXTEL Scholarship for Exceptional Talent. Since then he has developed further TV series and film projects, most notably the darkly comic thriller GET OUT OF HERE, which is now in development with Emerald Productions. Jonathan also writes children’s books, having worked on the TOP GEAR BEST BITS series for Penguin (UK) in 2008/2009, and currently contributes humour features and reviews to various consumer magazines. Jonathan specialises in comedy-drama, but also works in thriller and science fiction genres.

Vicki has written for Seven Network drama HOME AND AWAY and Children's series TOTALLY WILD, PUZZLE PLAY and IN THE BOX - all premiering nationally on Channel Ten. She is currently developing her own Children's drama series CLEMENTINE PARKES, producers Stewart Wall Entertainment. Vicki won Best Romantic Comedy Screenplay for her script MY ROMANTIC COMEDY at WorldFest, Houston, 2006. She was also twice nominated for an AWGIE for best Un-produced Feature Film Script for MY ROMANTIC COMEDY and STILL WATERS. Vicki currently has a feature film in development, IF YOU LIVED HERE, with Mini Studios.
SUSAN ERRINGTON WRITER: FICTION
Susan Errington is a South Australian writer. Her novel, OLIVE STREET, was short-listed for a Victorian Premier's Literary Award. Olive Street has also been published in Holland as NACHT IN OLIVE STREET. She has been highly commended in the Age Short Story competition and has won the University of Canberra Short Story Competition. Her work, both fiction and non-fiction, has appeared in Smashed, Penguin Summer Short Stories 2, Cracker, Spiny Babbler, Monitor, Island, On Edge and Wet Ink Magazine.
ILSA EVANS WRITER: FICTION
Ilsa began her career as an author with the LAUNDRY SERIES (SPIN CYCLE, DRIP DRY and ODD SOCKS), before moving on to other light fiction books, all with a uniquely Australian flavour. Her novel BROKEN, published in 2007 represents a shift in style with a more dramatic approach and stems from the findings of a PhD (on the long-term effects of domestic violence) awarded in 2005. More recently she published THE FAMILY TREE. Now writing full-time, Ilsa plans to continue writing both serious and light fiction, as well as working on a non-fiction anthology containing survivor's own stories of domestic violence.
MURRAY FAHEY DIRECTOR / WRITER/ PRODUCER: TELEVISON/ THEATRE & FILM
Murray is an award winning director and writer of television, theatre and film. He began his career in film as an actor performing in numerous Australian feature films, mini series. Murray has worked as a theatre writer and director primarily of comedic plays that have been performed all over the world. Murray has directed, and written numerous commercially successful feature films including DAGS and CUBBYHOUSE and has many credits as a producer/ director in television with programs such as the comedy show CLIPTOMANIACS. He was also a writer of THE ELEVENTH HOUR SERIES for the AFC Comedy Fund and Channel Seven and the REAL ELECTION for Channel Ten. He has produced, directed and written many award winning short films including SQUEEZE which won third prize in the 1999 Tropfest Film Festival, and THE CODE which won Best New Talent in Tropfest 2008 and screened at Cannes that year.
JOHN FLANAGAN WRITER: FICTION/ TELEVISION/ CORPORATE/ ADVERTISING
John has written in a wide range of creative fields, however, he is best known for THE RANGER'S APPRENTICE series, a young adult, medieval fantasy book series. Before the commencement of this series, John spent over 20 years in advertising agencies. From here, he made the decision to move in to writing for television and for eight years was the head writer for the sitcom HEY DAD! During this time he also co-developed and co-wrote three more sitcoms and a one hour drama series. When these came to an end he decided he wanted to try writing children's fiction novels and began the RANGER'S SERIES which now has eight books, is sold to twenty countries, has been on the New York Times Bestseller List for over twenty weeks and is regularly shortlisted in children's book awards in Australia and overseas. He has also written two crime thriller novels STORM PEAK and AVALANCHE PASS recently published by Random House.
PENNY FLANAGAN WRITER/MUSICIAN/PERFORMER
Penny Flanagan is a Sydney-based writer. She started her professional creative life at 19 as a songwriter and had some success as one half of ‘90s folk-pop duo, Club Hoy. While Club Hoy were recording their second EP, Penny found herself sitting around a lot in recording studios waiting for rhythm tracks to be completed. So she started to write something. It became her first novel, a story for teenagers entitled, CHANGING THE SKY, published by Hodder and Stoughton in 1993. When Club Hoy disbanded in late 1993, Penny went on to become a notable solo artist in her own right. Her debut solo single, Lap It Up came in at number 68 in the 1994 JJJ Hottest 100 and was included on that year's top-selling compilation CD. Penny continued to write and her first adult fiction, SING TO ME, was published by Penguin Books in 1998. In between she has had three short stories published in Picador New Writing, Imago and Meanjin. One of her short stories, Black Dots in Cages was broadcast on Radio National's Short Story series in November 2006. Penny has also worked as a manuscript assessor and script assessor for various well-known authors and screenwriters: David Caesar, Jacqueline Perske, Ilsa Evans, Larry Buttrose, Dave Warner, Posie Graeme Evans. She is currently working on her third novel.

Peter Gawler is a Melbourne-born graduate of the Swinburne Film & Television school. In a career spanning 30 years he has worked as a script editor, script producer and writer on many series, mini-series and telemovies, plus several feature films. His credits include WATER RATS, for which he won AWGIE Awards in 1999 and 2001, the HALIFAX F.P. telemovie franchise (winning an AWGIE Award in 2002), and the telemovies THE POSTCARD BANDIT and LITTLE OBERON, earning further AWGIES. Peter wrote 6 episodes of UNDERBELLY, and together with co-writers Felicity Packard and Greg Haddrick won the Mini-Series (Adaptation) Award and the Major Award at the 2008 AWGIES. He also contributed scripts to UNDERBELLY: A TALE OF TWO CITIES and UNDERBELLY: THE GOLDEN MILE. A MODEL DAUGHTER, with its many challenges, represents the high water mark of Peter's true crime-writing career.

Sharon Guest, a graduate of NIDA's playwright's studio, came to notice by the Royal Shakespeare Company when her first play DYING FOR COMPANY was selected for its Festival of New Work. Commissioned by NIDA her next play, BEYOND BELIEF was selected as a showcase for the opening of the new NIDA Theatre. Sharon was specifically invited by the Head of AFTRS to develop this play into a telemovie. BEYOND BELIEF was later picked up by the ABC and optioned by Screentime. She has won awards for her plays, received grants from the FTO and is also a published author.

Marieke Hardy is a screenwriter, radio host, columnist, bon vivant and award-winning blogger. From inauspicious beginnings as a lisping child actor in The Henderson Kids II, she has both appeared in and written for many Australian dramas from PACKED TO THE RAFTERS to BLUE HEELERS to SOMETHING IN THE AIR. Her first storyline was accepted when she was fourteen years old and since then she has forged a career in scriptwriting, winning an AWGIE award for her children's series Short Cuts which she wrote single-handedly. These days she's most regularly found terrorising Triple J audiences weekday mornings on the Robbie, Marieke and The Doctor breakfast show, or making Jennifer Byrne's life a misery on the ABC's First Tuesday Book Club. Marieke's blog, Reasons You Will Hate Me, won the Best Australian Blog at the 2008 International Bloggie Awards. Her dog's name is Bob Ellis. She is currently developing an Adult drama series for ABC as well as a series with Claudia Karvan and Southern Star.

Lisa-sabina has worked in the Australian and British Film and Television industry as an editor, writer, producer and director of both film and television. Most recently directing high budget drama documentaries for major production companies screening in Australia, the US and UK. She has received much critical acclaim for her last production, THE CATALPA RESCUE; the production even won a Hugo Award in the US this year. Her production, COLUMBUS, received the highest audience figures recorded for the entire Discovery Channel network and another program, CLEOPATRA, was short-listed for a BAFTA. Currently she is directing and producing a film on Ancient Ireland for RTE. She has also directed numerous music videos and light entertainment episodes for television, including making videos and documentaries for Charlie Watts from the Rolling Stones.

Christine Hogan is a media professional who has worked in newspapers and magazines as a writer and an editor, and in television as a producer of news and an executive producer of current affairs. She is the author of four books, including MEN: A USER'S GUIDE (Simon & Schuster, 2003); her second book, a collaboration on the autobiography of one of Australia's most loved personalities, was completed in 2004. Her third was THE VEILED LANDS: a WOMAN'S JOURNEY INTO THE HEART OF THE ISLAMIC WORLD (Pan Macmillan, 2006). That same year, LOOK AT ME: BEHIND THE SCENES OF AUSTRALIAN TV WITH THE WOMEN WHO MADE IT (ABC Books), her commemoration for the Australian Film Commission of the 50th anniversary of Australian television was published. She is currently working on a major piece of crime non-fiction as well as an historical trilogy. She has also just co-authored Maria Venutti's memoir due for publication in 2010.

Jo Kasch is an award winning Melbourne based television writer and script editor. Christopher has been a full-time writer since 1972 and has published seven books, five of which are award winning. One of his novels, THE YEAR OF LIVING DANGEROUSLY, became an MGM film directed by Peter Weir. The screenplay, co-written by Christopher, was nominated for a Hollywood Academy Award. In 1995 Christopher was made an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) - one of the nation's highest honours - for his contribution to Australian literature. Alongside writing novels, Christopher also worked for a total of twelve years as a radio producer at Australian Broadcasting Corporation (A.B.C), specialising in dramatised broadcasts for schools. He was federal head of ABC Radio for schools before he resigned to write full time. Koch's books OUT OF IRELAND and HIGHWAYS TO WAR are currently under option.

Debbie is a writer, PR consultant and broadcaster. Her first book, SONGWRITERS SPEAK, was published in 2005 and features in-depth interviews with 45 of the most important Australasian songwriters of the last 50 years. As a journalist, her articles and reviews have been published in Australia, New Zealand, the United States and England, in major newspapers and magazines, and in prestigious international journals such as Variety, Goldmine, Performing Songwriter and Time Out. Andrew Lewis is a Sydney-based director / producer with experience on a number of television shows such as HOME AND AWAY, BREAKERS, and a number of children's shows such as OCEAN STAR, SNOBS, PARALLAX and most recently STREETSMARTZ. Andrew is also working on his own feature projects, DIRTY GIRLS and DRILL IT, which is currently under option. He is co-writing both projects with Dave Warner and is attached as director. Andrew is also attached to direct EVE'S GARDEN, a feature film by Sarah Smith that has received funding from Screenwest. Andrew has also directed numerous stage plays including MILO, which was performed at the Sydney Theatre Company.

Tes's writing has drawn extensively on her Greek background and, in particular, the immigration experiences of her parents. However, Tes is not only adept at dealing with issues that affect migrants, her writing is also concerned with the generations that follow and through her work Tes deals with issues that are inherent in our society today. Tes's earlier work was characterised by the use of bi lingual/multilingual language, something that she has pioneered in Australian Theatre. To date Tes's most successful plays have been THE FORTY LOUNGE CAFE which premiered at the Playbox Theatre, Melbourne and BLOOD MOON which has been performed in multiple Australian Theatres. Currently Tes is working on a film script and a theatre piece based on the ancient Greek play "Agamemnon".

Donald Macdonald is well established as an accomplished and versatile creative talent, who has written for all mediums. Claire’s directing career has so far, been fuelled by almost unbelievable good luck; from getting her degree in less than 18 months to landing a job before she even finished uni. She has directed fantasy scenes and promos for tween sensation the Sleep Over Club (series 2) and in the UK directed a completely green screen commercial for a Nigerian Bank. In 2007 she directed a music video for Australian Idol finalist Chris Murphy and a few days later traveled over to Adelaide to work on the feature film Closed for Winter starring Natalie Imbruglia. Here her skills working with children came into play as she coached a 10 year old who had never acted before to rave reviews. Not content just learning her craft in Australia Claire received a grant from Screenwest to travel to Los Angeles in 2008 to complete three internships at American production companies. Returning from LA Claire directed 5 episodes of the Broome- based kid’s drama Trapped, 4 episodes of the channel 7 series Castaway, and second unit on the award winning series Lockie Leonard.

Garth Maxwell is an award-winning drama director, writer and producer working in Australasia. He has directed primetime television drama, feature films, and shorts. He has created and written many of his projects. Garth directed many episodes of international hits XENA WARRIOR PRINCESS (starring Lucy Lawless) and HERCULES THE LEGENDARY JOURNEYS (starring Kevin Sorbo). He is a recurring director on Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert's new series LEGEND OF THE SEEKER and has also directed episodes of SPARTACUS Tapert's new show for Starz cable. In 2006/7 Garth created, co-produced, and co-wrote RUDE AWAKENINGS (telemovie + 10x1 hr episodes) an original drama series for Television New Zealand starring Danielle Cormack and Rose McIver. He has directed and produced many successful films including THE MAN FROM SNOWY RIVER which stamped George as a director of international renown. The film, which he created and directed, has become part of Australian box office history. In television, George has directed, written and produced for multiple series, including George's children's comedy IN THE DOGHOUSE for which he was director and producer. This program gained him an Emmy Award Nomination. Having only recently returned to Australia from the United States, George has worked as a producer and as a scriptwriter for Hallmark Entertainment.

Greg started in the entertainment industry in 1983 when he wrote his first feature film, THE CLINIC, nominated for Best Original Screenplay at the AFI Awards. Graduating from a Post Graduate Certificate in Creative writing from Queensland University of Technology in 2000 and studying different writing genres such as script writing, book reviewing, journalism, non-fiction and editing, Josie is now a full time writer. Josie draws on her varied life experiences to help her with her writing, interesting experiences such as being involved in a bank robbery, surviving cancer, growing up within an Italian community, and winning the major prize on ‘Wheel of Fortune'. Josie has written numerous popular children and young adult fiction books including her controversial young adult book SEX STUFF THEY DON'T TEACH YOU AT SCHOOL. She has also written Junior Fiction, the SNOT series. Josie is currently studying Masters with QUT focusing on speculative fiction as well as working on a young adult speculative fiction novel, SUNLIGHT and is co-writing another young adult novel, VEILED SECRETS.

Vincent Monton has worked in the film industry for over thirty years in Australia and internationally as a Cinematographer, Director and Writer. His extensive Cinematography credits on over 35 feature films include some of Australia's best known and most successful productions collaborating with outstanding Australian directors including George Miller and Bruce Beresford. Vincent has also directed the 2nd Unit on a number of features including DEAD CALM and BLACK STALLION. In recent years, Vincent has also turned to directing and writing films and short films. His directing credits include the feature film WINDRIDER, with Nicole Kidman, and he wrote and directed the tele-feature THE HIT and POINT OF NO RETURN. KRIS MRKSA WRITER / SCRIPT CONSULTANT: FILM / TELEVISION
In his twelve year career as a writer and script editor Kris Mrksa has won numerous prizes and accolades including two AFI Awards and two AWGIES. In that time he has written for many prime time TV series including The Secret Life of Us, Packed to the Rafters, Rush, Carla Cametti PD and East West 101. Kris was also a key part of the team that developed and wrote the hit TV series Underbelly 2, A Tale of Two Cities and Underbelly 3, The Golden Mile. More recently he was involved in adapting Christos Tsiolkas’ best selling novel The Slap for television, and wrote two episodes of the series. In 2006 Kris co-wrote the critically acclaimed tele-movie The King, based on the life of Graham Kennedy, which was the highest rating drama ever screened on subscription TV in Australia and went on to win three AFI's and a Logie. Kris was also the script editor on both seasons of the hit SBS comedy series Wilfred, which has now been successfully adapted for US television.

Alison Nisselle was a cadet journalist/news reporter until she joined Crawford's as a scriptwriter. Alison's writing and creative credits cover children's series, documentaries, miniseries and tele-features. John has developed two TV series: BONDI BANQUET, produced by Robyn Kershaw (SBS, 2001); and FIREFLIES, a 22-part drama for Southern Star John Edwards (ABC-TV, 2005). He has written scripts for WATER RATS, MDA, RUSH, and kids' series g2g and K9. He has several projects in development, both features and TV series. His feature script GIRL was part of the NSW Aurora program in 2007. John's background is in museum and travel writing. He teaches drama, has an occasional blog, Clouds In The Head, and lives in the Hunter Valley.

Nick is a writer, director and script editor in film, television and theatre. He has directed more than a dozen stage plays, two short films and a feature film. He has written three full-length stage plays, an upcoming musical, several one-acters, a feature film, episodes of television series and serials and several radio plays. Nick wrote and directed the feature film DEAD HEART distributed through Village Roadshow, an episode of the TV series Two Twisted broadcast on Channel 9, and the short-documentary series TIPPING POINT for The Weather Channel. He is co-writer on the forthcoming feature RESTRAINT, distributed through Madman in Australia and Grindhouse in the U.S. and is currently writing several episodes of the ABC children's drama series MY PLACE produced by Penny Chapman. As director he is developing a feature film SMASH MAN, written by Mark Hopkins, which has recently been optioned, and UNDERSTANDING ANATOMY written by Simon Elrahi, and is also working on a number of other film, theatre and TV projects as either writer or director. For his writing Nick has received the Ian Read Memorial Grand Prize for Radio Drama, an AWGIE Award, The Australian Human Rights Award, The Sydney Critics Circle Award and the NSW Premier's Literary Award.

Scott's career began with short films as a director / editor / producer. He had great success with his short films, in particular LESSONS IN THE LANGUAGE OF LOVE, which was officially selected for the Cannes International Film Festival and PACT which was officially selected for the Venice Film Festival. Scott directs television, his credits including FALLEN ANGELS, STINGERS, SHOCK JOCK and ALL SAINTS and theatre, his production of TO THE GREEN FIELDS BEYOND being selected for the Best of Independent Theatre Festival in 2006. Scott has also directed two feature films including A WRECK A TANGLE and THE CROP.

Heather Phillips is an award winning writer and producer based in Queensland. She lived in the United States for six years where she went to The AFI and worked in the film and television industry. Heather has written, developed and/or produced various short films including the award winning MOTHER OF AN ATTITUDE, for which she was producer and she was story developer and producer of FLUSH another short film which premiered at The Locarno Int FF. Heather has worked as a script editor on one feature (in financing) as well as writing & co-producing two documentaries for Film Australia. The first of these, GONE TO A GOOD HOME, which was broadcast on SBS TV had more hits to the SBS website after viewing than any other documentary. Whilst in the States, Heather, in tandem with a fellow Australian set up Blue Tongue Films Inc. working in story development for well-known studios. Heather also worked specifically in script coverage for many well-known producers. She currently has two feature films as both writer and producer in financing. Her interests lie mutually in drama and documentary.
SHANE PORTEOUS WRITER: TELEVISION; ANIMATION ARTIST
Shane Porteous writes regularly for the long-lived and popular television serials HOME AND AWAY and NEIGHBOURS (for which he has won two AWGIES) and has also written for A COUNTRY PRACTICE and ALL SAINTS. For many years Shane worked as an animation artist on films and cartoon series. He created storyboards for series such as GLORIA'S HOUSE and layouts for the animation feature THE MAGIC PUDDING. Better known to the public as an actor, Shane played a lead character in the TV series A COUNTRY PRACTICE for twelve years. He has more recently appeared as a guest actor on NEIGHBOURS, HOME AND AWAY and BLUE HEELERS, as well as in a number of short films and documentaries.

John has written and co-written many television series including the bible for SHIP TO SHORE, SWEAT and RAW FM. John has been working on his own projects for some time and his children's drama series FOREIGN EXCHANGE, an Irish - Australian production, was produced by Magma Films and Southern Star last year. John co developed, wrote storylines and wrote four episodes of the 12 episode comedy/adventure series HAYDAZE. He also wrote and/or directed various stage plays including BABEL, which was a finalist in the Dominion Drama Festival. John currently has multiple projects in development including an adult miniseries, a series for teenagers and a feature film.

Peter Robb was born in Toorak in 1946 and grew up in Australia and New Zealand. He has taught at the University of Melbourne, the University of Oulu in Finland and the Instituto Universitario Orientale in Naples. MIDNIGHT IN SICILY was published in Australia in October 1996 and won the Victorian Premier's Literary Prize for non-fiction in 1997. Peter Robb's biography of Caravaggio, titled simply M was published in late October 1998 in Australia, and created considerable controversy on its publication in Britain in early 2000. His collection of three pulp crime novellas - PIG'S BLOOD AND OTHER FLUIDS was published in December 1999. Robb's most recent book, A DEATH IN BRAZIL, was published by Duffy & Snellgrove in October 2003, and will be reprinted in paperback in October 2004. It has recently been named The Age Non-Fiction Book of the Year for 2004.

Gina is an award winning writer/producer who has been working in documentary and drama since 1989. Jennifer began her work in publications as a book editor and later began work as editor, senior editor, managing editor, Deputy Publisher and finally, Publisher at Angus and Robertson Publishers. During this time she began writing children's books under the pseudonym Emily Rodda and mysteries for adults under her own name. She has written or co-authored well over fifty books for children as Emily Rodda. This includes the award-winning, internationally successful series of fantasy books DELTORA QUEST and RONDO (KEY TO RONDO, WIZARD OF RONDO, BATTLE FOR RONDO). Her other children's series include THE FAIRY REALM and the ROWAN OF RIN novels which have been optioned for a feature film. JAMES (JIM) SHEPHERD

Described as a career criminal, James Shepherd has a history spanning over 50 years. Very few people have such a detailed understanding of how the violent and brutal criminal world operates and the real lives criminals lead. Born in New Zealand, James operated at the highest levels of the criminal world in New Zealand, Australia, England and America. Acknowledged by the 1983 Stewart Royal Commission as second in charge of the Mr Asia Drug Syndicate, he was sentenced in 1986 to 25 years imprisonment for his involvement. Over the years he has often been approached by the media for the real Mr Asia story. A private, articulate and intelligent man, James now chooses to live a quieter life in Sydney, Australia.

Sarah was one of the first recipients of the W.A. New Screenwriter's Bursaries in 1994 for her feature film script, EVE'S GARDEN. Sarah continued to develop this and other feature film projects, as well as writing for television, including the children's series, SHIP TO SHORE, SWEAT, FAST TRACKS, FOREIGN EXCHANGE and MINTY. In 1997 Sarah co-produced and script edited a package of twenty short films for the Arena Channel on Foxtel, one of which she wrote and directed, the award winning IMELDA'S SHOES. Sarah also won the 2002 AWGIE award for her AFC funded short film CALLING GERRY MOLLOY, which has screened at numerous international film festivals. In 1999, Sarah was a writer and script editor on Channel Seven's ALL SAINTS. MCLEOD'S DAUGHTERS followed with Sarah writing and script editing on the first two series. In 2003 she became the Script Producer for MCLEOD'S DAUGHTERS and continued throughout series 3 and 4. Sarah was responsible for on-going story and character development, plotting over fifty episodes and helping steer the show to become Australia's number one drama. Sarah wrote and produced for Channel 9's THE ALICE in 2005 and in 2006 helped develop and write SEA PATROL for McElroy All Media and Channel Nine. In 2006/7 she helped develop the Nine Network mystery drama series, CANAL ROAD, writing 4 of the 13 episodes. Sarah remains to be highly sought after for her skills as writer, editor, story-liner and script producer.

Boaz Stark has worked extensively as a television scriptwriter for over twenty-five years, including stints on such internationally successful shows as NEIGHBOURS, HOME & AWAY, MIRROR MIRROR, ALWAYS GREENER and PACKED TO THE RAFTERS. Boaz is also an experienced storyliner, script editor, and story editor and has worked on animated series, had short stories published, written advertising copy and web content. Dave Warner originally gained national recognition as a musician-songwriter and has since been prolific in other areas of writing including literature and screenplays. Dave has written six crime titles, two children's novels and a number of non-fiction books. Crime opus CITY OF LIGHT was the winner of the West Australian Premier's Award for Fiction. Dave's first feature movie CUT was sold world wide and his second, GARAGE DAYS, which he co-wrote and produced screened at various film festivals. Dave's television credits include writing regular episodes of the dramas SEA PATROL, CANAL ROAD and PACKED TO THE RAFTERS and RESCUE. Dave has also script edited for the TV series TWO TWISTED. Linden works as both a writer and performer and combines these two skills to develop scripts focusing on new collaborative approaches. She has also adapted Brenda Walker's novel, ONE MORE RIVER, into a feature film, which is now with Freshwater Pictures. She has worked extensively in series television as a writer, a script editor and story editor. Her plays have been performed by Sydney Theatre Company, Playbox and Griffin Theatre.

Michael has had a number of series ideas in development with various local Australian production houses including John Edwards Southern Star, Screentime - Producer Bill Hughes, Circa Entertainment - Producer John Hugginson. During this time he was commissioned by the Nine Network THE COAST and a series he created for the ABC, A WOMAN'S PLACE. Two other projects Michael worked in the creation team on for the Nine Network which are now in series are BROOME and RESCUE Michael has just completed a comedy pilot for Jon Plowman and Justin Davies (BBC Vision Studios) and has another project under active consideration with them. Michael has a project with (BBC Drama) Emma Broughton under active consideration. There are numerous other projects he is also developing and co-developing.
ELEANOR WITCOMBE WRITER: FEATURE FILM/ TV DRAMA / STAGE / RADIO / CHILDREN'S
Eleanor's early interest in theatre led to her being commissioned as a young playwright to write three comedies for children which were produced extensively and attracted much interest in Australia and overseas, with innumerable productions. Eleanor became a leading writer for radio and has written the books of two musical shows. Initiating the Australian Theatre for Young People, she wrote their first large scale production, THE RUNAWAY STEAMBOAT. Among television work Eleanor serialised programs including the internationally successful SEVEN LITTLE AUSTRALIANS (receiving an AWGIE Award) and was one of the original writers for NUMBER 96. Eleanor has written numerous screenplay's including the critically acclaimed and multi-award winning feature, MY BRILLIANT CAREER. Eleanor has developed several of her own projects, and in Los Angeles explored the possibilities of an animated film of THE MAGIC PUDDING, with animation doyen Ralph Bakshi. She also developed the original comedy of OVER THE HILL - later taken over and rewritten for an American star. Contracted by Paramount in 1991, she has also researched and scripted a proposed epic on the life of US legend Baby Doe, now being considered for a US mini-series.
SUE WOOLFE WRITER/EDITOR: TELEVISION/ STAGE/ NOVELS
Sue Woolfe has worked as a teacher, scriptwriter, TV subtitle editor and documentary maker. She is the author of the bestselling novel about mathematics and motherhood, LEANING TOWARDS INFINITY, to date published in five countries. It won the Christina Stead Prize for Fiction in 1996 and was shortlisted for many other prizes. She re-wrote it for the stage, and it's been work shopped in New York and produced at the Ensemble, Sydney. Sue's other works include the novel PAINTED WOMAN (1989) which was translated for publication in France (2008) and produced twice as a stage play. Most recently, she has released the acclaimed novel THE SECRET CURE which has recently been optioned for a film. She has also published many short stories, and written occasional articles for the press. In non-fiction, she co-authored MAKING STORIES: HOW TEN AUSTRALIAN NOVELS WERE WRITTEN, and last year she published THE MYSTERY OF THE CLEANING LADY: A WRITER LOOKS AT CREATIVITY AND NEUROSCIENCE, which is an investigation of what neuroscience has learned about ways to move our imaginations. Sue also teaches fiction writing at Sydney University.
ALEXA WYATT WRITER/ SCRIPT EDITOR/ STORY EDITOR: TELEVISION/ STAGE/ FILM
Alexa has many years experience in television drama as a writer, senior script and story editor, script producer and storyliner. Her work for theatre includes the much admired one woman play THE LOOK, and the radio comedy MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME. Alexa has written on such prime time programs as PACIFIC DRIVE, ALL SAINTS and HOME & AWAY and the children's program OUTRIDERS. Her script editing experience includes, HEARTBREAK HIGH, WATER RATS, HORACE AND TINA and the feature film DARK SIDE OF THE MOON. Among other roles in the program, Alexa was senior script editor on the popular series E STREET. Alexa worked as script producer on BIG SKY with Southern Star and also shared the role of script producer on MCLEOD'S DAUGHTERS for series three and part of series two. For the last five years Alexa has been working in-house on MCLEOD'S DAUGHTERS in various roles, including as script writer, and as script producer for series 3, 7, 8 and part of series 2 of the long running popular prime time drama series. Alongside all of these roles, Alexa has also been working as a script assessor for the NSWFTO and SAFC.
